Advanced Telehealth Coding (The genie is out of the bottle)

2020 Evaluation and Management Symposium: Virtual Conference

Presented Thursday, September 24, 2020

Summary

This presentation will address both the legal and technical sides of advanced telehealth services and highlight telehealth changes since the onset of the current public health emergency (PHE). Maxine will focus on various laws including recent legislation resulting from the COVID-19 crisis which spurred the temporary expansion of telehealth services. What will happen after things return to normal, when these “temporary” rules will be evaluated and revised? Maxine identifies the ways this process may affect healthcare practices in the services provided, telehealth reporting, auditing, and legislation. Aimee will cover the diagnosis coding changes that transpired due to the PHE, review special and new codes related to specimen collection and testing, and clarify modifier use and place of service changes. She explains how states got engaged and put laws into place to promote and ensure proper reimbursement for telehealth services. With all the changes for telehealth coding in 2020, there are even more on the way, and this session will prepare you for accurate telehealth reporting in 2021.
